European football governing body UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against the English Football Association following Sunday’s Euro 2020 final.
There were ugly scenes outside Wembley after Italy was crowned champions with a section of the Italian fans having been attacked by the hosts.
The match was marred by various incidents in and around Wembley with a large number of ticketless supporters reported to have forced their way into the stadium and chaotic scenes on Wembley Way.
In the proceedings, the FA has been charged with failing to control their own supporters, some of whom invaded the field of play and many of whom jeered the Italian national anthem before kick-off.
An additional charge relating to an England supporter lighting a firework inside the stadium has also been handed down by European football’s governing body.
