The numbers are in for the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament, with viewership hitting an all-time high. Football’s world governing body have revealed the numbers and it paints a great picture for the future of the women’s game.
FIFA revealed that a whopping 1.12 billion viewers tuned in for France 2019 across all platforms. 993.5 million of them tuned it via a TV set for at least one minute of coverage, which is a 30% increase from the 2015 edition.
Digital platforms amounted to a substantial figure, bringing in an estimated 481.5 million people. This accounted for 43 percent of the total viewership, a huge increase from the 86.0 million in digital audience back in 2015.
The average viewership for live matches was 17.27 million viewers, more than twice the numbers brought in at Canada 2015. Of all the games played, the final between the USA and Netherlands brought it the highest average audience, with 82.18 million watching the ultimate game live. In second place is France vs Brazil with an average viewership of 60.67M.
