‘Accept the offer for Cedric!’ – Arsenal transfer decision made even easier after FA Cup exit – Football.London

Arsenal had a Sunday afternoon to forget as they crashed out of the FA Cup at the Third Round.

Lewis Grabban’s 83rd minute goal sealed, in truth, a deserved win for Championship side Nottingham Forest as they dumped the Gunners out of the competition at the very same stage for the second time in four years.

With the City Ground proving to be a difficult ground for Arsenal once again, a number of individual performances have been highlighted as a cause for concern.

In particular, the two full-backs as Nuno Tavares and Cedric Soares came in for Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu respectively, although the latter didn’t make it to half-time.

Having lost possession on numerous occasions and caught out of position consistently – all right in front of Mikel Arteta – the Portugal U21 international was taken off after the half hour mark.

Although, the Arsenal manager insists he made the decision in an attempt to improve the performance of his side.

“I just did it to try to improve the performance of the team,” Arteta revealed in his post-match press conference. “I understand that but I have to make the decision to try to improve the performance of the team when it’s not going in any other direction.”

Whilst Tavares may or may not have been treated harshly, there are some Gunners supporters who believe his compatriot Cedric was fortunate to remain on the pitch for as long as he did.

Despite making a strong start to the cup tie, he eventually faded as the first-half wore on and did little to suggest he’s at the level to be Tomiyasu’s perfect back-up.

As a result, there’s a feeling that Cedric has made Arsenal’s transfer decision even easier with his poor performance.

Over the weekend it was reported by the Daily Mail, that the Gunners were considering a loan proposal from Atletico Madrid for the former Southampton defender.

But as revealed by football.london , it was unclear ahead of the Forest game as to whether they would accept an offer.

Judging by the reaction on social media, there’s a number of Arsenal fans who think Cedric’s time at the Emirates Stadium is up as they’ve urged Arteta and technical director Edu to accept the offer from Atletico.
