AFCON 2022: Partey’s Ghana lose opening game | News – Arsenal.com

Thomas Partey faced disappointment in his opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations as Ghana were beaten by Morocco after conceding a late goal.

In a closely-fought affair, there were few clear-cut chances in the first half – although our midfielder came closest with a free kick that flew over.

It was only towards the end of the game in the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium that opportunities arose.

Ghana’s Joseph Paintsil saw a good effort saved by Yassine Bounou with 20 minutes remaining, before Morocco scored the only goal of the game as Sofiane Boufal seized on a loose ball in the box to fire home.

It was a disappointing start for Partey and Ghana, who are looking to win their first Africa Cup of Nations title since 1982.

Ghana are next in action on Friday, when they take on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s Gabon.

Our striker missed his side’s opening match on Monday, when Aaron Boupendza’s goal sealed a narrow victory against Comoros – also at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

The victory puts Gabon joint top of Group C with Morocco.
