Arsenal press conference live: Mikel Arteta on Tavares substitution, Xhaka’s COVID and Forest – Football.London

Mikel Arteta is set to face the press after Arsenal’s FA Cup Third Round clash with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The Gunners played out a turgid first half where the notable talking point was the decision to replace the ineffective Nuno Tavares with Kieran Tierney after just over half an hour, prompting furious scenes from the Portugal under-21 international.

Things didn’t improve much in the second as Philip Zinckernagel and James Garner both had opportunities to put the hosts in front with Bernd Leno making good saves.

Eventually Forest found the breakthrough as Albert Sambi Lokonga’s midfield error saw Steve Cooper’s side counter quickly and get in front through Lewis Grabban.

Arsenal were unable to respond and failed to muster a real opportunity of note as they crashed out of the FA Cup at the Third Round stage.

Things could get even worse after it was confirmed that Granit Xhaka and Folarin Balogun both missed today’s game due to COVID while Emile Smith Rowe and Takehiro Tomiyasu both were absent due to injury adding to the Gunners depth issues.
