Arsenal suffer £40m transfer blow as Edu looks for fifth summer signing after Ben White deal – Football.London

Arsenal have now completed their fourth summer signing with Ben White arriving at the Emirates Stadium for £50million.

White has signed a long-term deal with the Gunners after weeks of speculation surrounding his future with Brighton.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have been very busy men so far this summer and the next few weeks do not seem as if they will be any easier for the pair, with numerous names still being linked with a switch to north London.

One of those players is Sheffield United and England man Aaron Ramsdale, who has emerged as Arteta ‘s first choice goalkeeping target this summer, football.london understands.

The Gunners have already seen two bids turned down for the 23-year-old shot-stopper and could return with an improved offer for his services.

According to The Star, the Blades value Ramsdale at £40million and Arsenal’s second bid was around £10million short of the Championship club’s asking price.

And it appears that Sheffield United are playing hardball in negotiations and will not budge on their valuation of the England international, who was recently called up to Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for their Euro 2020 campaign.

After seeing how keen Arteta is to sign Ramsdale, and his “refusal to agitate for a move”‘, the Yorkshire club are holding firm on their £40million demand.

Earlier this week, new Sheffield United boss Slaviska Jokanovic addressed rumours linking Ramsdale and midfielder Sander Berge with moves to Arsenal and insisted they were happy at Bramall Lane.

“Of course I will be hurt if they go, because I do not detect any unhappiness from them,” the Blades boss said.

“I do not feel, having worked and been around them, that they are unhappy to be here or with us.

“They are quality players. I am surrounded by quality players here. But everyone knows their qualities.

“I don’t read English newspapers. I prefer to read the ones from my own country.

“Seriously, of course I am aware of situations and what is being said.

“But for me, I am very happy with their commitment and their attitude. I am happy with the commitment and the attitude of all of the players. It pleases me.”
