Hello and welcome to football.london’s Arsenal matchday blog!
The Gunners will be looking to climb to the top of Group A in the Europa League with a win over current leaders Bodo/Glimt tonight at 8pm UK time. The north London outfit haven’t played in the competition since September after their home tie with PSV Eindhoven was postponed in the aftermath of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
Arsenal head into the game off the back of an impressive derby day win on Saturday. Arteta’s men beat arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at the Emirates thanks to goals from Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Gabriel Jesus.
Although they’re expected to run away as comfortable winners over Bodo/Glimt, judging by this new-look Arsenal, the club won’t be underestimating their opponent. Mikel Arteta may look to make changes ahead of a huge Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday, but the Spaniard will take the Norwegian outfit seriously and field a side he knows is capable of gaining all three points.
The Gunners boss has been handed a welcome boost, too. Cedric Soares is available for selection again after a minor injury setback. Reiss Nelson is also in contention for a first start this season. The 22-year-old returned to the bench against Spurs but was an unused substitute on the day.
Everything points towards a comfortable night in N5, but as everyone knows, anything can happen in football. With that in mind, make sure to tune in as the football.london team of Kaya Kaynak, Tom Canton and Bailey Keogh will be bringing you live updates from the Emirates Stadium.
