Ben Chilwell gives Man City spending verdict amid Chelsea plan to dethrone Pep Guardiola’s side – Football.London

Ben Chilwell has been speaking about Chelsea’s greatest title rival for next season as the left-back targets to dethrone current Premier League champions Manchester City.

Chilwell, 24, had a disappointing Euro 2020 campaign in the summer with Manchester United’s left-back Luke Shaw shining on the big stage in his absence.

Nevertheless, it hasn’t got him down and as a result, the Englishmen is looking forward to another big season in west London as he aims to be part of a Thomas Tuchel’s Champions League-winning squad who beat City to the 2021/22 Premier League title.

“To win the Champions League which is one of the bigger European tournaments to win if not the biggest, it gives you the confidence to go and win more silverware,” Chilwell told Sky Sports.

“And also, it gives you the hunger that once you have had that feeling of winning a trophy, it makes you have the feeling of wanting it even more.

“There’s a lot of good teams in the league this year, so that is a tricky one to answer, Chilwell responded.

“There’s going to be a lot of teams fighting for the league.

“A lot of good players have come into the league for this season, so yes it’s going to be an exciting season for everyone involved, and obviously our focus and aim is to win the Premier League title this season.”

The 24-year-old signed for a reported fee of £50million in the summer transfer window of 2020 from the Foxes.

Pep Guardiola’s side have just broken the British transfer record and paid double that for now-former Aston Villa star Jack Grealish, as City look to strengthen further to help in their pursuit of their first-ever Champions League title.

“Man City have been a great team over the last five to 10 years,” Chilwell stated.

“And yeah, I mean that’s what you are going to get with the big teams.

“They are going to want to spend to keep improving their squads because they are not happy with just winning the league last year- they are going to want to do the same again this year.

“So, It’s not a surprise that they are going to strengthen their squad because they are going to want to keep on improving.”

Sheikh Mansour’s big moves in the transfer market have prompted Roman Abramovich to respond in accordance with his own transfer strategy for the west London outfit. understands that Marina Granovskaia has agreed a £97.5million fee with Inter Milan for Serie A MVP winner Romelu Lukaku, as the Blues look to gift Thomas Tuchel his much needed ‘world-class’ striker.

Chilwell will be looking forward to swinging in crosses from the left-hand side for his soon-to-be Chelsea teammate.

The former Leicester star impressed in his first season in west London, featuring in a total of 42 games in all competitions and contributing a total of 11 goal involvements last term.
