Bernardo Silva believes Paris Saint-Germain are just one of the teams to beat in the Champions League this season, after Manchester City were defeated by PSG this week in their second group game.
City and PSG are the two favourites to win the competition with the bookmakers, making their pairing in Group A all the more interesting. City beat PSG over two legs in last season’s semi-final but were bettered in Paris on Tuesday as Mauricio Pochettino’s side took a small slice of revenge.
Despite creating plenty of chances, City couldn’t find a goal and were beaten by goals from Idrissa Gueye and Lionel Messi. Bernardo had City’s best chance of the night as he hit the crossbar from three yards with the goal open after Raheem Sterling’s header had come back off the bar.
And after the game, Bernardo played down the importance of PSG’s victory when asked if Paris Saint-Germain were the team to beat in this season’s Champions League.
“There are a lot of teams to beat in the Champions League, not only PSG,” he said, naming the sides he felt have a chance of winning the competition.
“The list is endless: Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atletico, us.
“A lot of teams can win this competition. It’s a very tough competition. We are going to try again, we are going to try to get as far as we can.”
Looking ahead to City’s clash with Liverpool on Sunday, Bernardo insisted City were ready for another huge Premier League away game.
“Of course, we are ready.
He said: “Of course, we are ready. It’s another big game, very important for us. We face one of the best teams in the world, away from home, in a difficult ground. We will be up for the challenge, for sure.”
