Arsenal are closing in on their second incoming deal of the summer transfer window with the news that Edu has agreed a deal in principle to sign Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Ben White.
White, 23, is moving ever closer to leaving Graham Potter’s side and signing for the north London club in a deal worth around £50million.
football.london understands that the Gunners have struck an agreement in principle to sign the Three Lions defender in a move which will be completed subject to a medical.
However, it is also expected that official confirmation of the deal will take a little time with the defender currently on holiday following his part in England’s Euro 2020 campaign.
Nevertheless, the deal is looking very likely to come to a natural conclusion on White holding up an Arsenal shirt in the near future.
A prospect which has sent the whole Gunners faithful into meltdown on social media, after the news broke this evening.
This is how a select number of Arsenal fans reacted to the news on Twitter.
@AFCJohnn said: “50M accepted for Ben White, deal done, medical now. Big big big signing.”
@BennicAFC tweeted: “Welcome Ben White, give all for this club and I’m sure you can help us back to the top! COYG.”
@Matty_Hawks put: “Don’t mind the signing of Ben White at all.. but 50mil is crazy, talk about English tax.”
@afc_prab compared the Brighton centre-half to a defender which Manchester United have been linked to, and believes his club have got the better signing of the two.
He said: “If we are being honest White is much better signing than Varane.
“White is 23 very good on the ball only gonna improve in the future.
“Varane is 28 and has been poor for a while. Without Ramos he’s never been convincing.”
Not all Arsenal fans are convinced that the England International is the right signing for the club.
@MarcoWi08362307 stated his opinion: “Man like Ben White, I guess. Still not convinced, but this recent bias propaganda don’t fool me.

“I so hope I’m proved wrong.
“It’s a lot of money on a player who isn’t a midfielder.”
The 23-year-old made a total of 39 appearances in the Seagulls back-line in the 2020/21 season, impressing alongside fellow centre-half Lewis Dunk.
His great form led to an England call up for the Euro 2020 squad.
While he did not not feature in the main tournament, he made his England debut shortly before the tournament and was included in the main 26-man squad after Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced to pull out due to injury.
