Brendan Rodgers not interested in potential Newcastle United vacancy – MARCA.com

Current Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that he has no interest in the potential vacancy as Newcastle United boss, following speculation that he could take over from Steve Bruce.

Bruce is expected to be relieved of his duties as Magpies boss following the club’s recent Saudi-led Public Investment Fund takeover.

Rodgers has been in charge of Leicester since 2019 and has since led them to both FA Cup and Community Shield success in 2021.

As reported by Sky Sports, Rodgers has no intention of taking over from Bruce and is much happier at Leicester, believing there is still a lot to achieve with his current set of players.

Lampard vs Gerrard?

Former England midfielders Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard have both featured heavily in the media recently, being pinned as possible replacements for Bruce.

With both former players still very new to management, they have shown themselves to be capable of guiding a team.

Gerrard arguably has had the more successful time so far, as he led Rangers in 2020/21 to their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years.

Lampard, on the other hand, spent one season at Derby County, leading them to the Championship play-off final, before moving to the club where he made his name as a player, Chelsea.

In his first season as manager at Stamford Bridge, Lampard took his side to a fourth-place finish in the league and an FA Cup final, but he lasted only four months into his second season before being dismissed.

Either manager could do well if they were to take over at Newcastle. Lampard, of course, is the one currently out of a job, meaning it would make more sense for him to get the role, but either coach could change things up for the better at the club.

Speculation of a new manager has also included the likes of Arsene Wenger, Lucien Favre, Eddie Howe and Antonio Conte, who led Inter to a Serie A title in 2020/21, ending Juventus’ run of nine consecutive titles.
