‘Buy him back!’ – Chelsea fans cannot believe what Marina Granovskaia has done after £18m deal – Football.London

Chelsea have announced the departure of highly-rated centre-back Marc Guehi, confirming that he has joined Crystal Palace on a five-year deal.

Guehi, who impressed whilst on loan at Swansea City last season, passed a medical with the Eagles on Thursday after Chelsea and Palace settled on a fee, understood to be around £18million.

The centre-back was backed to force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans at Stamford Bridge this season after such an excellent campaign at the Liberty Stadium last term, which so nearly saw Swansea clinch promotion back to the Premier League.

However, just a week or so after reporting back for the start of pre-season, Guehi has departed, joining Palace on a long-term contract.

On completing his move to Selhurst Park, the defender told Palace’s club website : “I’m very excited. It’s a great opportunity for me to come to such a big club in the Premier League. I’m really excited to get going.

“I think it was the direction that the club’s taking, a really exciting direction with the new gaffer that’s come in. A lot of good young players are here and obviously such a stable club with top players really enticed me and made me want to come here.

“[Patrick Vieira] speaks for himself. The player he was, the way he conducts himself and even recently as a manager, he has a really good record. When he was at Nice he did some really good work there and I’m really excited to work with him.”

Although Guehi’s switch to Palace will give him a greater chance of achieving first-team football, several Chelsea fans have been left slightly disappointed by the Blues’ decision to sanction his exit, with some hoping that a buy-back clause has been inserted in the deal.

As you can see from the messages above, several Chelsea supporters are gutted by Guehi’s exit, as they felt he could grow into a top player at Stamford Bridge and become a mainstay in the team in years to come.

Considering how well he did at Swansea last season, a fee of around £18million appears to be a cracking piece of business from a Palace perspective. The same, too, however, could be said for Chelsea, as Guehi only played twice for the club at first-team level.

Guehi could make his competitive debut for Palace against his old club when the two sides meet on the opening day of the 2021/22 Premier League season next month.
