Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel told he could do something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer dreams of at Man Utd – Football.London

Paul Merson believes Thomas Tuchel would be able to win the Premier League title with Manchester United if he had Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job at Old Trafford.

The Chelsea boss has done a fantastic job at Stamford Bridge since taking over from Frank Lampard in January, winning the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup in his eight months in charge.

Tuchel has received praise from numerous big figures in football for the job he’s done so far with the Blues, as he looks to mount a serious title charge in the Premier League.

After the opening five league matches of the campaign, Chelsea sit top of the table, with four wins and one draw so far.

However, Tuchel faces a huge test this weekend with his Chelsea team taking on last season’s Premier League champions Manchester City in west London.

Going into the game, though, the Blues manager has received some huge praise from former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson.

Merson, when writing in his Daily Star column, lauded Tuchel for his decision to take Mason Mount off for N’Golo Kante in last weekend’s win against Tottenham.

It was a tight first-half between the two London clubs, but Chelsea dominated the second period after Kante came on and ended up winning the match 3-0.

Merson praised the Blues head coach for his ruthlessness with substitutions and also spoke about how he would win the league with Man United, something Solskjaer is yet to – and dreams of – in his time at Old Trafford.

Merson wrote: “If Thomas Tuchel was manager of Manchester United, they would win the league. He is that good. And he can show it again when Chelsea take on Manchester City this weekend.

“United are not going to win the league this season, in my opinion. But if they had a manager like Tuchel it would be different.

“He sees the game. What he did last Sunday was a masterstroke, taking off Mason Mount and putting on N’Golo Kante.

“You’ve got to remember, Mount is one of Chelsea’s go-to players, one of their best players. But he brought him off and they literally ripped Tottenham to shreds.

“If that had been a boxing match you would have had to stop it because it was getting dangerous. Players have vision. It’s the same with managers. They see games. Top players see a pass. Top managers see the game.

“Other managers just stick their best 11 players on the pitch and say: ‘Go and do what you want…’

“It was a big deal bringing Mount off. How many other managers would have been brave enough to do that?

“But Tuchel doesn’t really care who he upsets. He has a huge squad of players and they can’t play every week. But he has enough games to keep everybody happy.

“It’s harder for English players because they want to play every week. Foreign players are more used to squad rotation.

“So Tuchel has another big call to make against City. That Chelsea midfield was unbelievable when Mount came off.”
