Chelsea are yet to bring in any new faces to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The German coach is believed to be on the lookout for three new additions, with a prolific striker, a defender and a centre-midfielder all seemingly on the agenda in the transfer market.
Chelsea have been linked to Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Rennes’ starlet Eduardo Camavinga, but it is another young midfielder that the current champions of Europe could move for, according to Spanish outlet SPORT.
The report claims that Moriba, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract, is unlikely to sign a new deal with the Blaugrana and both Tuchel and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola are believed to be interested in the youngster.
Chelsea have signed Barcelona stars Cesc Fabregas and Pedro in years gone by and may attempt to repeat that transfer trick this summer by staving off interest from City for the talented midfielder
Moriba has established himself as one of Europe’s hottest properties last term, featuring 18 times for Ronald Koeman’s side, an impressive amount considering he is still just 18-years-old.
Denis Silva Puig, who coached Moriba in Barca’s youth team compared him to Manchester United’s Paul Pogba because of their similar skillset and footballing brain.
“I remember first seeing him when he [was about nine years old]. It was obvious he was better than the others even though he was already playing with boys a year older—the movements he made, the way he cut inside”, Silva Puig said.
“He’s physically very strong, but he’s also a very intelligent player. Most people don’t appreciate this. Here he’s called the ‘[Paul] Pogba of Barca’ because he’s like a young Pogba, but also he is very, very intelligent—and that is his big potential. He is a top player, no doubt.”
Transfermarkt value Moriba at £22.5million but considering he has just one year to run on his current deal, the Blues may be able to snag him for less this summer.
