Chelsea striker Armando Broja has put pen to paper on a new five-year contract with the club.
The 19-year-old frontman, who scored in the Blues’ first pre-season friendly win against Peterborough on Saturday and also set up a goal for Hakim Ziyech, is now tied down to the club until 2026.
Broja is bucking the trend of academy players in Cobham this year with a number of impressive youngsters snubbing new deals, such as Tino Livramento, Lewis Bate, Myles Peart-Harris and Dynel Simeu.
Another academy graduate in Marc Guehi is set to join Crystal Palace imminently after deciding to move on with the Blues keen to loan him out once again, something the centre back wasn’t too keen on.
Broja enjoyed a successful loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem last season, scoring ten goals in the Eredivisie and 11 in all competitions for a club that is traditionally a favoured loan destination for Chelsea to send their youngsters to.
Thomas Tuchel is thought to rate Broja very highly and will give him a chance in pre-season to stake his claim for a first team place, which has got off to the best possible start with his 45 minute outing against Peterborough.
Broja joined Chelsea as an under-9 and has weaved his way through the academy system at Cobham and signed a scholarship deal with the club in 2018.
He has already been capped at senior international level by Albania and made his senior Blues debut in the home Premier League fixture against Everton in March 2020, replacing Olivier Giroud as an 86th minute substitute.
With Giroud departing the club this week to join AC Milan, a squad spot has opened up in the striking department for Tuchel.
The Blues head coach is keen to bolster in that area and Chelsea continue to be linked with a blockbuster move for Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland and former frontman Romelu Lukaku, currently playing his trade with Inter Milan.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website on his new deal, the striker said: “I am really excited to be signing a new contract with Chelsea. Having come through the Academy here it was a special moment for me to make my first-team debut last year, before gaining further experience on loan at Vitesse last season.
“I want to build on these foundations and I am really looking forward to progressing and making an impact at Chelsea in the years to come.”
