Chelsea fans spot what Reece James did after Brighton as Thomas Tuchel confirms injury fears – Football.London

Reece James was taken off 27 minutes into Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Brighton on Wednesday night following an injury.

The England international, who has been in sublime form for the Blues this season, is now set for a spell on the sidelines, with Thomas Tuchel confirming it was a hamstring problem that forced him off the pitch.

“Reece James we have a hamstring injury and a back injury for Andreas Christensen. That’s pretty much it,” Tuchel said following his side’s draw with Brighton.

James is Chelsea’s go-to man in the right wing-back spot, but Tuchel may now have to cope without the 22-year-old for the foreseeable future as the Blues assess the severity of the problem.

Following the match, and as posted on Twitter, James was spotted leaving Stamford Bridge on crutches – which is far from a good sign for Chelsea.

The news comes as a double blow, with Ben Chilwell set to miss the remainder of the season as he requires surgery on a knee ligament injury.

This leaves Chelsea without their two first-choice wing-back options on either side, but with the January transfer window fast approaching, it’s an opportunity for Tuchel to address these problems.

The Blues boss will be desperate for his side to fight back against Liverpool on Sunday as they look to keep the Premier League title race alive.

The Reds were beaten on Tuesday night and now sit nine points below table-toppers Manchester City, but have a game in hand, while Chelsea are eight behind Pep Guardiola‘s side, with the same number of matches played.

Tuchel thinks that the integrity of the title race has now been lost, with Chelsea’s injury and Covid problems mounting up.

He said: “This is the reality (the integrity has been lost), this is where we are and we have to adapt to the demands of the situation which you are in.

“This is what I am saying. I competed very hard for the win against Brighton at home. I don’t know what I can expect from my players in terms of physicality, intensity or minutes.

“Nobody knows anymore because we have never done something like this. We play trial and error and see what I can do. I will protect my team. We can play better but we need the full squad over weeks and weeks.

“If you see the impact from N’Golo Kante that he has if he only plays 30 minutes. One single player if you add the minutes that he is missing over a season, if you add the minutes over Mateo Kovacic it is too much.”
