There’s nothing like seeing a boyhood fan succeed in your own club’s colours for football fans.
And Romelu Lukaku couldn’t have really hoped for a much better second debut for Chelsea, as he terrorised the Arsenal defence, grabbed a goal and if not for a sensational save would’ve certainly grabbed another.
The Belgian shone brightest for the sparkling Blues in a game that saw them sweep aside their faltering London rivals in the north of the capital.
As part of football.london’s matchday coverage we produced a poll for Chelsea fans to vote for their best player of the match and Lukaku took the majority of the vote, with 52.1% of participants electing the striker as their man of the match.
Reece James pushed him close after his fine performance with 35.7% of the vote, the clear standout performers in a superb result.
Lukaku tweeted that “a childhood dream became reality”, something all Blues fans were certainly elated to see.
