Chelsea given contract assurance as Barcelona aim to spoil Thomas Tuchel dream January transfer – Football.London

Welcome to our football .london CareFree Chelsea daily news round-up. Maybe not the first, we’ve definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it’s not that new at all.

Chelsea have been given assurance over Cesar Azpilicueta’s Chelsea future amid Barcelona interest, the Catalan side have also joined the race to spoil Thomas Tuchel’s dream January addition and finally fans excitement over the inclusion of Cobham talent in the squad to face Brentford.

Hail Cesar

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta wants to remain at Stamford Bridge beyond this season, according to reports.

The 32-year-old’s contract runs out next year and he is free to speak with foreign clubs about a possible move away in January.

But according to The Athletic, the club captain plans to stay and compete for his place in Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Our Take: Compared to the contract situation of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, Azpilicueta’s case has always felt more relaxed and he would be able to decide his future with the club heading into next year. Given his longevity with us and his incredible performances over the years, he deserves that privilege.

Barca to Spoil January Plans

Despite Chelsea’s clear pursuit of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, Barcelona head coach Xavi ‘dreams’ of signing the Blues target as he feels he has the perfect profile to replace Gerard Pique.

Sport has claimed given Barcelona’s financial issues, a move is described as an ‘impossible dream’ for Xavi given the European giants are not in a financial position to buy a player of Kounde’s value.

Therefore, the European Champions still lead the race for the 23-year-old defender.

Our Take: Barcelona’s fall from grace has been rapid and even with some exciting young talent like Ansu Fati and Pedri to boast their road back to former glory appears long.

Chelsea does have the financial muscle over a number of their rivals to secure major deals and this is one that we could see completed in 2022.

With COVID ruling a number of first-team players out there is a high possibility some under-23 talent feature.

Our Take: It is great to see the academy being utilised again at a time of need and training with the first team.

Tuchel’s options are limited due to positive tests plus injuries decimating his squad, hopefully, we can see the likes of Vale, Hall and others gain their first senior minutes against Brentford.
