Chelsea morning headlines as Romelu Lukaku reportedly agrees five-year contract – Football.London

Here’s all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

Lukaku agrees contract

football.london have been told that terms have been agreed between Chelsea and Romelu Lukaku.

Now it’s all down to Marina Granovskaia to strike a deal with the Serie A champions.

Meanwhile, the Evening Standard claim that whilst Lukaku was not prepared to agitate for a move from Inter, he has now made it clear that he wants to join Thomas Tuchel’s side this summer.

Inter Milan are expected to accept Chelsea’s renewed bid of £100m-£110m for Lukaku, thus making him the club’s second signing of the summer transfer window after Marcus Bettinelli.

Furthermore, it’s claimed that he is expected to sign a five-year contract worth around £212,000-a-week.

Haaland decision explored

With Lukaku on his way back to Stamford Bridge, it means Erling Haaland will be staying put at Borussia Dortmund for another summer at least.

The Norway international had been linked with a move to Chelsea, but the Bundesliga side have been adamant that the 22-year-old is not for sale having already lost Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.

Whilst missing out on Haaland will certainly serve as a blow to many Blues supporters, there is a valid reason as to why signing Lukaku is more beneficial.

As per Premier League rules, the Belgian will count as a homegrown player for Chelsea as he spent three seasons with the Blues prior to turning 21 years old.

Tuchel can sign Chelsea’s van Dijk

In recent weeks Chelsea have been linked with a move for Sevilla’s highly-rated defender Jules Kounde.

football.london understands that the interest from the Blues is genuine, but a move is unlikely to materialise for anything less than €60m despite the Frenchman having a release clause of €90m.

If Chelsea can get a deal done, they could potentially be snapping up one of Europe’s most promising defenders who could be a vital player in the Blues’ defence for years to come.

For the level of price being touted to bring the La Liga centre-back to the Premier League, there are similarities with Chelsea’s big rivals.

Liverpool spent £75m to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in the January window of 2018 and Manchester City splashed £65m for Benfica’s Ruben Dias last summer.

Both deals subsequently helped their clubs reach the summit of England’s top tier and the Blues might be on course to do the same.
