Although they made hard work of it, the Blues scraped through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup last night thanks to a 4-2 penalties win over Aston Villa.

The game had finished level at 1-1 after 90 minutes but Chelsea were the better side from twelve yards.

In more positive news, Timo Werner managed to get onto the scoresheet after a well-taken header from Reece James’ cross.

The German has been looking a little shy in front of goal since falling behind to Romelu Lukaku in the striker’s pecking order at Stamford Bridge, but fans will be hoping that goal will give him confidence moving forward.

Thomas Tuchel’s side will now prepare to face Manchester City on Saturday afternoon in what promises to be an exciting affair at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, with the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Robert Lewandowski linked with moves to west London, there is still plenty happening off the pitch too.
