Good afternoon and welcome to live coverage of Thomas Tuchel’s press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester City.
The match is a rerun of May’s Champions League final. The Blues were victorious on that occasion in Porto and built on their success this summer with the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan for a club-record fee of £97.5million.
Lukaku has been instrumental in the early weeks of the 2021/22 campaign. He has netted four goals in five starts and will be charged with leading the Chelsea attack tomorrow lunchtime at Stamford Bridge.
It is Pep Guardiola’s job to devise a plan to stop Lukaku and the rest of Tuchel’s side. It’s something he has struggled to do since the German coach’s appointment at the end of January.
Chelsea have come away victorious in the three meetings between themselves and Man City since Tuchel‘s arrival. He has proved himself a tactical equal to Guardiola and will want to become the first coach to win four successive matches against the Catalan.
The game also gives the Blues an opportunity to lay down a marker in the early Premier League season. Five games in and Chelsea are top of the table, although level on points with Liverpool.
City, meanwhile, are three points behind in fifth. Guardiola and his players will not want that gap to grow, especially as they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in a little over a week’s time.
