Good evening and welcome to live coverage of Thomas Tuchel’s post-match press conference following this evening’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues’ booked their place at Wembley next month with an impressive showing. Antonio Rudiger put Chelsea ahead in the first half to open up a three-goal lead over the course of the tie.
Tottenham, rather weakly, attempted a fightback and thought they had been awarded a spot-kick when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was felled by Rudiger. However, on review by VAR, the decision was reversed and a free-kick was instead awarded.
That process was repeated in the second period after Lucas Moura was brought down by Kepa. Fortunately, the Spaniard got plenty on the ball and after consulting the on-pitch monitor, referee Andre Marriner changed his original call.
Tottenham then had a goal ruled out for offside after Harry Kane had rifled home a smart finish. Once again, however, it was the right decision.
Despite the above incidents, Chelsea were not put under too much pressure by Tottenham and secured their spot in the final – against either Arsenal or Liverpool – without any fuss.
We will get the full post-match thoughts from Tuchel. Updates will appear below.
