Good evening and welcome to live coverage of Thomas Tuchel’s post-match press conference following Chelsea’s draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Mind Series.
In their last official game of pre-season, the Blues were pegged back from two goals ahead at Stamford Bridge despite Spurs producing a lacklustre display.
Chelsea dominated proceedings from the opening whistle. And until a raft of changes were made on the hour mark, looked several steps ahead of Tottenham, who were without Harry Kane as the England captain prolonged his absence from the club by remaining in Florida today.
Ziyech was the Blues’ biggest threat in the opening period and took his goal expertly. But it was N’Golo Kante who was the standout performer; the midfielder produced an outstanding 45-minute display before being replaced by Tiemoue Bakayoko at the interval.
Chelsea doubled their lead early into the second period as a Marcos Alonso cutback found Ziyech in space and the Morocco international guided a shot into the far corner from an acute angle.
Tottenham pulled a goal back when Lucas Moura’s deflected effort looped beyond Edouard Mendy after Bakayoko had lost the ball in midfield. Soon after, Steven Bergwijn fired through the legs of Mendy after Malang Sarr had cheaply conceded possession.
Chelsea had chances to regain their lead – and there was an eye-catching cameo from academy graduate Tino Anjorin – but the game ended level.
We will hear from Thomas Tuchel shortly as the Blues head coach reacts to the result. He will also be asked about Romelu Lukaku, who is looking likely to join from Inter Milan.
