Chelsea told how to seal Erling Haaland deal as defender undergoes medical after bid accepted – Football.London

Here’s all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

Guehi offer accepted

Chelsea have accepted an offer from Crystal Palace for defender Marc Guehi, who will undergo a medical ahead of signing a five-year deal with the Eagles.

The 21-year-old returned to the club this summer after an 18-month loan spell at Swansea City and there was an expectation that he would be competing for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s senior squad this season.

After all, he did take part in the opening days of pre-season training at Cobham this week.

However, and as first reported by The Athletic, football.london understands Chelsea have accepted a significant offer from Palace for the England Under-21 international, whose move is expected to be completed in the next 48 hours.

The Blues have agreed a sell-on fee with Palace and have the first refusal on any future move for the academy graduate.

However, the deal does not contain a buyback option.

FA decision

The FA have made the decision to reintroduce FA Cup replays for the 2021/22 edition of the competition.

Omitted from the football calendar for the previous season due to the hugely condensed fixture list as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, they are set to return.

A statement from The FA reads: “Replays will be mandatory in all rounds of the qualifying competition and the competition proper from the first round proper up to and including the fourth round proper.”

The decision could have a major bearing on Chelsea for next season.

Traditionally earning a bye into the third round of the FA Cup, it means the Blues could potentially play an extra two matches throughout the season.

‘Crazy’ Haaland bid

One could argue that it would be in the Blues’ best financial interest to wait until next summer to push through a move for Erling Haaland as that is when the 20-year-old’s release clause of €75m (£64m) will kick in.

However, all rumours point towards wanting to get a deal done this summer.

And whilst Borussia Dortmund have publicly stated that they have no intention of selling Haaland in the current window, as per Sport 1, a £150m bid could force them into a U-turn.

There was talk that Marina Granovskaia and Tuchel wanted to include Tammy Abraham – valued at £50m by the club – in a swap deal to bring the Norwegian to west London.

As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Dortmund have not received any official bid yet for Haaland. Furthermore, their position is clear, if a ‘crazy’ bid doesn’t arrive between now and deadline day then the Norwegian will stay put.
