Confirmed Chelsea team vs Tottenham: Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku start, Jorginho returns – Football.London

Timo Werner starts for Chelsea as they take on Tottenham in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi final in north London.

The German international appears to be partnering Romelu Lukaku up front, who made his return to the side in the reverse fixture following his Sky Italia interview and subsequent fallout.

It appears Tuchel might be trialling four at the back once again with a back four of Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Malang Sarr.

Rudiger returns after being rested for the FA Cup win over Chesterfield at the weekend, while Azpilicueta has shrugged off a bout of cramp he picked up in that game to start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Jorginho returns to the starting elven having also been given Saturday off ands he is partnered by the in-form Mateo Kovacic in the middle.

N’Golo Kante, who returned to training on Tuesday after his Covid isolation period ended, is named among the substitutes.

Thiago Silva, who was also back in training on Tuesday following his isolation, is back among the substitutes too alongside Kante. Youngster Lewis Hall, who impressed in the 5-1 thumping of Chesterfield, also makes the bench.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount also start in advanced midfield positions behind the front two of Werner and Lukaku.

Having been rested at the weekend, Kepa Arrizabalaga returns in goal at the expense of Marcus Bettinelli, with Edouard Mendy away at the AFCON with Senegal.

Chelsea: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, Sarr; Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount, Hudson-Odoi; Werner, Lukaku.
