Ella Toone bagged five of her side’s goals as a rampant Manchester United swept aside Leicester City in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.

United scored six before the break and continued their 100% record in the competition this season with a triumphant victory.

KEY MOMENTS

Jess Sigsworth claimed United’s first after only a minute when she started and finished a move that saw Lizzie Arnot whip in a low cross and Sigsworth apply a clinical finish.

Arnot was on fire and after a slide-rule pass by Ella Toone, instead of crossing she cut onto her right foot and fired into the top corner.

For the third, Jane Ross slipped a short pass to Toone who fired past the diving Demi Lambourne and into the bottom corner.

Full back Kirsty Smith was soon in on the act after a long ball over the top fell kindly for her and Lambourne mistakenly came flying out of her net, but Smith kept her cool to advance and smash into the empty goal.

Only minutes later Sigsworth found Toone unmarked into the area and the strikers steered past Lambourne for United’s fifth.

Leicester’s Libby Smith got one back but only a minute later, after another United cross from the right and a couple of ricochets later, the ball had rebounded off Toone’s shin for her third.

The second half saw Ross add to United’s tally with a bullet header while Toone bagged her fourth with a sweet strike from the outside of her foot.

Hayley Ladd’s 35-yard chip was the pick of a very good bunch for United, while Toone struck again from close range and Lauren James got on the scoresheet to add the eleventh on a difficult night for the away side.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

United’s eighth was a sublime goal by Hayley Ladd, who won possession in midfield and chipped the Leicester goalkeeper from 35 yards.
