Brighton coach Graham Potter has revealed striker Danny Welbeck has ad surgery after a ‘devastating injury setback.
Welbeck picked up a hamstring injury during Albion’s penultimate match last season match against Manchester City. The England international missed the preseason and the opening matches of Albion nursing the injury and now Potter says the surgery was the best solution for the striker.
“It has been ongoing and in the end, surgery seemed to be the best solution for him,” he said.
“Obviously it’s devastating for Danny and for us but he has had surgery, all is well and he will be back stronger than ever, I think. It is just going to take a bit of time for that to happen.”
Meanwhile, Enock Mwepu, Adam Webster, and Yves Bissouma are back in training and all three have a chance of being available for selection this weekend.
Danny Welbeck has had surgery on his hamstring that will keep him out for a while. Alzate (ankle) is also sidelined long-term. “Everyone has come back okay [from the internationals]. We’ve had time to recover and we’re excited for the game,” said Potter. “Bring it on.” #BHAFC
