Former Chelsea midfielder Deco has hailed Thomas Tuchel’s impact at Stamford Bridge as the German looks forward to his first full campaign with the Blues.
The German replaced Frank Lampard at the club in January following a hugely disappointing first half of the campaign.
Tuchel enjoyed a wonderful few months, though, as Chelsea secured their second Champions League title against Manchester City, whilst also earning a place in the Premier League top four.
The Blues also featured in the FA Cup final but lost out to Leicester City at Wembley Stadium.
Despite that, it was a dramatic turnaround in west London and Deco, who made 58 appearances for the Blues, was left impressed.
Talking to 101, the Portuguese said: “Chelsea did very well. A lot of young players, new players this season, experienced players
“They changed the coach, Frank was, at the beginning, doing good job. After that, after Frank, Tuchel took over the team. He did very good job and I was happy because I was supporting Chelsea in a final and it was amazing seeing Chelsea there once again.”
Deco’s thoughts are certainly similar to those of fellow former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
The Spaniard was also left praising Tuchel’s positive impact after taking the reins from Lampard.
Talking to Goal, he said: “Tuchel has come in and taken the team to another level.
“With Chelsea, I left six months before Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Eden Hazard left. These are important names, important players in the dressing room and Frank Lampard couldn’t sign anyone (to replace them) because they had the ban. So he deserves credit as well for it.
“He took great players from the academy like Mason Mount, Reece James, Tammy Abraham, Billy Gilmour and all of these players. We have to appreciate all he has done.
“The team has reacted well and I believed they would do well against Man City.”
