It was a beautiful scene at Dansoman when girls between the ages of 11 and 17 gathered for the first edition of “beyond the goalpost” tournament organized by the French Embassy and Dunk Grassroots.

As an organization that believes in developing, unity, nurturing and knowledge all participants in the event were taken through lessons on genger roles and how important it is for girls to take up leadership roles. Over 30 girls were taken through this session as they were led by Samuel Lamptey.

Shortly after, it was time to exhibit their team spirit through football games. The competing teams were Team  Beyond the Goalpost and Team Happy Days Academy. It was a good day for Happy Days Academy as they won three games in all 3 divisions mainly U-11, U-12 and U-15. The U-11 and U-12 games ended 4-1 in favor of Happy days Academy.

Try as they may, the Butterflies from Beyond the Goalpost once again lost 0-1 to Happy Days Academy emerging as the overall winner for the football games. With Happy Days Academy playmaker Ruby Lankai scoring a hat-trick in the first game.

To add more color to an already exciting events, penalty shoot out as well as dancing competitions took place. Rebecca Arthur from Beyond the Goalpost won as Ruby Lankai won the penalty shoot out. Over 80 girls were taken through gender education.
