EFL Roundup: Man United knocked out as Chelsea, Spurs advance – Futaa.com

West Ham United got their revenge by knocking Manchester United out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Manuel Lanzini’s tenth-minute goal was to prove the difference in a tense game that saw United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer throw in the likes of Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes late on to try and salvage the game.

The hosts had an abundance of chances to equalize with the best falling to substitute Mason Greenwood after just coming on to the pitch but his powerful shot produced an incredible save from Hammers debutant Alphonse Areola.

In other games, Chelsea progressed to the next round after a nervy win over Aston Villa on post-match penalties.

Chelsea Through

The hosts made the breakthrough in the 54th minute when Reece James’ whipped cross found Timo Werner in at the back post, who nodded past Jed Steer but teenager Cameron Archer equalized for the Villains with a powerful header after being picked out by Matty Cash.

Tottenham fought off a spirited fightback from Wolves to book their place in the fourth round on penalties.

Spurs led after 14 minutes through Tanguy Ndombele with Harry Kane doubling their advantage with his first goal of the season. Leander Dendoncker pulled one back for the hosts with a powerful header before Daniel Podence completed the comeback with a placed finish into the bottom corner.

To penalties it went with Ruben Neves blasting over the crossbar before Dendocker’s effort was saved by Pierluigi Gollini and Conor Coady hit the bar to gift Nuno Espírito Santo the win.
