Erik ten Hag is “very happy” that Manchester United are on the cusp of officially unveiling Casemiro as a new signing.

The Brazilian international is expected to be unveiled as a new Red Devils player either before or at half-time in tonight’s Premier League clash against bitter rivals Liverpool.

The 30-year-old midfield enforcer is a massive signing for the Reds and he’s the midfield general that Manchester United have been crying out for ever since Roy Keane retired.

Speaking to BBC Sport about Casemiro’s impending arrival, Ten Hag said: “He is the cement between the stones, that is what we have been looking for in the summer and found him.

“Very happy with this signing.”

The former Ajax manager had instructed the Reds hierarchy to pursue his former midfield charge Frenkie de Jong as his priority signing this summer.

But a move for the Barcelona midfielder has not come to fruition with ten days of the summer transfer window remaining.

United’s inability to convince the Netherlands international to move to Old Trafford and sacrifice Champions League football meant we switched our attentions to Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

But the Reds walked away from the deal given the Frenchman’s excessive wage demands and instead we managed to quickly broker a deal for the former Sau Paulo star Casemiro.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez didn’t stand in the midfielder’s way as the five-time Champions League winner wanted to embark on a new challenge.

Casemiro could make his Manchester United debut in Saturday’s trip to Southampton, and he’ll no doubt be kicking every ball for his new team during tonight’s clash against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
