Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Thursday, July 22.
Youngster in contract talks
The right-back, who is currently with Chelsea’s first-team squad in Ireland as the club continues its pre-season preparations ahead of the start of the new campaign, should sign a long-term deal in west London if talks go according to plan.
In the last 18 months or so, Sterling has experienced some shocking luck on the injury front, meaning the prospect of him getting the opportunity to commit his future to the Blues is no doubt a relief for him.
Chelsea are desperate to tie him down to a new deal at Stamford Bridge following Lewis Bate’s move to Leeds United.
Haaland raves about Lewandowski
Signing a new striker is a top priority for Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel this summer.
Chelsea struggled to find a consistent source of goals within the squad last season and addressing that issue this summer is the German’s main focus.
Tuchel’s top target is Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, but negotiations between Chelsea and the German outfit are proving difficult, so much so that the Blues are now reportedly taking their search elsewhere.
Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski has been pinpointed as a solution and Chelsea are reportedly very keen. Should they sign him, it would almost certainly get the seal of approval from Haaland.
Speaking earlier this year, Haaland said: “Robert Lewandowski is crazy. It’s just crazy. When I score a goal I always think ‘one goal closer to him’ and then he just scores a hat-trick again, like it’s the most normal thing in the world.
“What he does is crazy. He’s crazy. I can learn a lot from him.
“First of all he is technically very strong and also in-game building.”

No bids for Rice
According to talkSPORT, West Ham United are yet to receive any formal offers for midfielder Declan Rice.
The England international is being heavily linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United this summer, with the Blues desperate to bolster their midfield options with his services.
The Hammers are reportedly demanding around £100million to even consider letting go of Rice, highlighting just how big a task it would be for anyone to lure him away.
Recently, it has been reported that Chelsea were prepared to offer the Hammers Tammy Abraham, plus cash, in an attempt to get a deal over the line.
