Europa Conference League: Roma lay down marker, Spurs held in frustrating night –

UEFA’s inaugural third-tier competition, the Conference League, kicked off on Thursday night with a total of 14 games played across Europe.

Two matches; Maccabi Tel-Aviv vs Aalshkert and Maccabi Haifa vs Feyenoord were played on Tuesday night, bringing the total to 16.

AS Roma were the biggest winners of the night as they sent a statement of intent, humbling CSKA-Sofia 5-1 with Lorenzo Pellegrini scoring a double.

Slavia Praha, Copenhagen, and Bodø/Glimt also caught the eye, winning with identical scores of 3-1.

English side Tottenham struggled though as they settled for a 2-2 draw against Rennes, with their night made even more miserable as two of their players picked injuries ahead of a London derby on Sunday against Chelsea.
