Former World Cup winning and US Women’s National Team’s (USWNT) coach Jill Ellis will be making a special appearance at half-time to talk about the incredible growth of the Women’s game following her team’s remarkable success in France over the summer.
She said: “After the energy of this past summer, it is fantastic to see Women’s football being played on the biggest stage at the world-class Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. I was delighted to be invited back and I’m excited to watch Spurs Women in the north London derby this weekend.”
She stands down as the most successful coach in USWNT history with 106 wins, 19 draws and just seven defeats – the only person to take charge of two successful Women’s World Cup campaigns, recording victories in all 15 games across her two tournaments bar a 0-0 draw against Sweden in 2015.
Ellis took charge of the USWNT in 2014, leading the side to two World Cups (2015 and 2019), before overseeing her final match against South Korea in Chicago last month.
The English-American soccer coach, last month was named Women’s Coach of the Year at FIFA’s Best Awards and has now assumed an Ambassadorial role with US Soccer.
This will not be her first visit to Tottenham Hotspur, USWNT prepared for their successful World Cup at world-class training facilities in Enfield, with the squad attending our live screening of the UEFA Champions League Final at the stadium on 1 June.
