After undergoing surgery, Marcus Rashford has been ruled out of action for the foreseeable future.
The MEN has picked out five different options that United could use to fill Marcus Rashford‘s void.
1. Jadon Sancho
Although naturally a right-winger, Sancho is not a stranger to the left-wing position and has played there on numerous occasions for Borussia Dortmund.
In fact, Sancho played at left wing more often than right wing for the Bundesliga outfit last season.
Sancho’s ability to cut into his right foot and conjure goal-scoring opportunities for himself or his teammates makes him the prime candidate for the position in Rashford’s absence, especially considering Mason Greenwood has excelled in the right-wing position towards the end of last season.
Sancho’s pedigree and price tag make him an almost certain starter in the team and his ability to play on the left could come in handy during the start of the season.
2. Daniel James
James can also be deployed in the left wing role and while he does not come with an impressive pedigree like Jadon Sancho, the Welsh international caught the eye at Euro 2020 and he is in good form heading into pre-season.
James has struggled for consistency and his end product in the final third is far from what he would like.
But James’ electric pace can be frightening and he still has the ability to cause problems for opposition defenders and make himself a nuisance.
3. Jesse Lingard
Whether Lingard will be a United player by the end of the window only time will tell.
On the back of a solid campaign at West Ham, the United academy graduate could be another option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
If he can continue his excellent momentum and prowess in front of goal, Lingard could certainly have the potential to fill the void in Rashford’s absence.
4. Anthony Elanga
Elanga is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in United’s academy at the moment.
The Swedish youth international has already made his Premier League bow for the club’s first team and has already netted his first goal on the final day of the season against Wolverhampton.
He hasn’t stopped catching the eye in pre-season either scoring against Queens Park Rangers and putting in displays that were noticed by fans and pundits alike.
Elanga has shown he is ready for the next step and while he has little experience in the club’s first team, Solskjaer could throw him in at the deep end.

5. Anthony Martial
The United forward is comfortable on the left and has played there on a number of occasions but Martial is currently recovering from an injury he suffered back in the spring and may not be at Solskjaer’s disposal during the beginning of the season.
Martial at his best is more than capable of delivering the goods, and if he can get himself match fit and focused, he could provide another solid option for United on the left flank in Rashford’s absence.
Martial’s pace, ability to beat players one vs one are just some of his traits which can be reminiscent of Rashford when he is at his best.
