Florentino Perez makes Martin Odegaard transfer decision amid Arsenal interest – Football.London

Arsenal are determined to bring Martin Odegaard back to the Emirates at some point this month.

We are now into the final month of the summer transfer window, and Mikel Arteta is still desperate to add a new creative midfielder to his ranks, and football.london understands that the Gunners remain hopeful they can lure Odegaard back to north London.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who has under two years remaining on his existing contract with Real Madrid, spent the second half of last season on loan in north London and did enough for Arteta to want him back for the 2021/22 campaign.

Odegaard reportedly wants to fight for his place at Los Blancos under newly-appointed boss Carlo Ancelotti, but it is believed that he would be open to returning to Arsenal.

Now, according to a new report from Spanish news outlet MARCA, Real Madrid’s directors consider the door to be open for almost all players at the club’ to leave this summer.

That includes Odegaard, where it later says that if an offer came in that convinced Madrid’s board, then the Norway international would be granted permission to depart the Spanish capital.

Speaking back in May earlier this year, before his loan spell with Arsenal had concluded, Odegaard admitted he was unsure about his future in north London.

He told talkSPORT : “To be honest, I don’t know what is going to happen.

“I’m focused to finish the season well, then I have some games with the national team and then after that we’ll see what happens and sit down and talk.

“I’m owned by Madrid so will have to talk to them and see what they think and then we can decide together about the future.

“At the moment, I don’t know what is going to happen.”

Arsenal are still on the lookout for a creative midfielder, someone that can support Emile Smith Rowe – who recently penned a new long-term deal at the Emirates Stadium.

James Maddison is someone admired by Arteta, but reports of a £70million price tag from Leicester City could put the Gunners off pursuing a deal there somewhat.

Odegaard seems to be the priority in that area for the north Londoners and this latest development could give the green light to make a move for his signature.
