Fabio Cannavaro has tipped Lionel Messi to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or ahead of his fiercest rival Cristiano Ronaldo, 90 min reports.

Messi recently won his first trophy for his native country in style at the just concluded Copa America tournament.

And Cannavaro now believes Messi’s brilliant individual performance for the Albicleste will land him his seventh Ballon d’Or award in the coming months.

On the other hand, Ronaldo is also a contender for the coveted accolade after finishing as Golden Boot winner at the Euro 2020 with five goals.

However, Cannavaro, the 2006 Ballon d’Or winner is 100 percent sure Messi will win the individual award after inspiring Argentina to the Copa America glory.

“He is the absolute No.1 and he was the protagonist of a great Copa America,” Cannavaro said.

Jorginho lays claim on Ballon d’Or

Earlier, reported Chelsea midfielder Jorginho believes he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or award this year ahead of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and others.

The 29-year-old inspired the Blues to Champions League triumph last season despite starting the 2020-21 season on a poor note.

He replicated his performance at the club level for his national team as Italy defeated England to win the European Championship for the second time in the history of the competition.
