The Women’s Premier League Management Committee (WPLMC) has expressed sadness over the passing of Berikisu Tijani, a former player of Elmina Sea Lions who passed away on January 3, 2020 after a short illness.

The 21-year-old Level 100 student of the University of Cape Coast will be buried at Elmina on Saturday and ahead of the burial and funeral rites, the WPLMC has sent a message of condolence to the bereaved family and Elmina Sea Lions for their loss.

“It is sad to hear the sudden passing of the Berikisu Tijani who had such promise in both academic life and also in her career as a footballer.

“On behalf of the Committee and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the committee extends its condolences to the bereaved family as well as Elmina Sea Lion for this loss.

“It is also a loss to the football fraternity and we pray that the good Lord will console and strengthen the family and her teammates in these trying times.
‘We pray that the good Lord will also grant her eternal rest,” a message signed by the Chairperson, Mrs Hillary Boaten, said.

As a result of this, Sea Lions’ Match Day Five game at home against Police Ladies on Saturday has been moved to Friday to enable the team and the football fraternity pay their last respect to their fallen colleague on Saturday.
