Hakim Ziyech decision, N’Golo Kante ruled out – predicted Chelsea team vs Juventus – Football.London

Chelsea continue the defence of their Champions League crown in midweek as they travel to northern Italy to take on Juventus in Turin, looking to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat to Man City in the Premier League.

That was Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel’s first defeat of the 2021/22 season as they were beaten 1-0 by Pep Guardiola’s side, Gabriel Jesus scoring the only goal of the game to settle matters in west London.

The Blues head coach will travel to Turin without N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Reece James and Christian Pulisic who have all been ruled out for the game.

Kante has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently quarantining so he misses this game and is likely out for the Southampton match on Saturday in SW6.

James suffered an ankle problem that forced him off late in the first half of the City defeat, while Mount picked up a knock in the Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa and will miss a second straight game.

Pulisic, meanwhile, has been out since September 9 when he picked up an ankle problem of his own during the USA’s 4-1 win over Honduras during the international break.

With a shuffle of the pack expected once again for Tuchel, how could the Blues line up in Turin for the crunch clash? Here is what we have gone for.

Tuchel should stick with his back five, but will be without James and so Cesar Azpilicueta is likely to move back to wing-back. Thiago Silva returns to the starting line-up to replace the injured James, with Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger keeping their places.

There is a change at left-back in this side, with Ben Chilwell coming in for only his second start of the season and replaces Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard has been performing well to start the campaign but extra defensive solidity is needed not just this week but from here on so Chilwell should get his place back.

With Mount still out, there is another decision to be made. The front two of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner didn’t work at all against Man City so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a change made there and reverting back to a front three.

Hakim Ziyech could be in line for a recall after Werner’s below-par outing on Saturday in the Man City loss. Lukaku is nailed on to start and Kai Havertz is likely to come in as well.

Predicted XI: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Thiago Silva, Rudiger, Chilwell; Jorginho, Kovacic; Havertz, Ziyech, Lukaku.
