Chelsea fans have reacted in a worrying way after seeing Manchester City submit a £100million bid for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish.
The Cityzens have been quiet so far in this summer’s transfer window, however, the latest developments have shocked the whole of the Premier League.
John Percy of The Telegraph has reported that an official bid of £100m was submitted by the City hierarchy for the Birmingham-born player, with it being believed that £100m will most likely seal the deal despite Villa’s wishes to keep Grealish and get him signed up to a new contract.
Dean Smith’s side haven’t officially responded yet to the offer, but we are expecting a decision soon.
If Grealish’s move to the blue half of Manchester goes through, it would be the biggest transfer in English football history to date.
Of course, that could be eclipsed by Chelsea if they are willing to splash out £150m on Erling Haaland.
The Blues have struggled so far in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund, with the noise coming out of Germany implying that the Norwegian sensation if set to stay unless a ‘crazy’ offer comes in from Roman Abramovich and co.
But with Villa’s playmaker looking more likely at the moment to eclipse the current transfer fee record in England, that would metaphorically give Manchester City a 1-0 lead over Chelsea when it comes to making big moves in the transfer market.
Here is how a different selection of Chelsea fans reacted on Twitter to the latest Jack Grealish developments.
@UberChelseaFC tweeted: ‘I’ll say it again… £100m for Jack Grealish makes £150m for Erling Haaland look unbelievable.’
@Blue_Footy said: ‘City opened official talks with Villa two days ago for Grealish. First official bid of 100m set to be accepted. Medical early next week. Another evidence that a lot of transfer work is done unofficially. The rest goes very quick. I hope Chelsea have something for us next week.’
@MattDebonoSI demanded the club react to this potential statement signing from Pep Guardiola’s side: ‘City sign Grealish. Chelsea sign Haaland. Get it done, open the chequebook Roman. Don’t want to hear any excuses.’
@TweetChelseaUK said: ‘City cruised the league title and are now set to fork out £100M+ on signing Jack Grealish, whether he’s worth it or not he only strengthens them further and gives them that bit more of depth. Hurry up Marina! We need to make our move soon.’
@Emenalo sarcastically tweeted: ‘Chelsea finished 19 (!) points behind City. Chelsea finished 7 points behind United. City have signed Grealish. United have signed Sancho. Chelsea have signed some unknown backup keeper.’
Marcus Bettinelli is that ‘unknown’ goalkeeper, he was the first signing of the window for Thomas Tuchel, with a minimum of two more signings expected before the end of the window.
If this deal goes through, Blues correspondent for Goal.com Nizaar Kinsella informed fans on the state of play in the transfer market as we approach the midway point.
Kinsella tweeted on July 28: ‘Kounde is progressing well.
‘Zouma seems to be open to joining Sevilla despite PL clubs looking at hijacking the talks.
‘Chelsea have plenty left to do business for two more big signings if they pull it off as a swap.’
Two signings further to the ones already mentioned will most likely come in the form of a new central midfielder, and of course the clinical striker which the Blues have missed since Diego Costa left for Atletico Madrid in 2019.
Expectedly, patience is a virtue when it comes to negotiations and that may be needed here from fans despite seeing title challengers for next season Manchester City make humongous moves that have sent shockwaves around the whole of England.
