Ian Wright makes prediction about Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba at Manchester United – Manchester Evening News

Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright believes Bruno Fernandes’ performance for Manchester United against Leeds United last weekend will have sent a warning to the rest of the Premier League.

The Portugal international, who made the switch to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, made the dream start to the new campaign, netting a hat-trick to secure a memorable opening day 5-1 triumph for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Fernandes — who scored 28 goals in all competitions for United last season — scored the goal that put United 1-0 up in the first half before netting his side’s third and fourth goals, respectively, to round off a memorable win over Leeds.

His performance was nothing short of sensational and one that sent a message to the returning Old Trafford faithful that they are going to enjoy what he brings to the table this season.

And Match of the Day pundit Wright believes Fernandes was announcing himself to the fans, as well as revealing just how troublesome a trio he, Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood could be for the rest of the league.

“What I saw from Bruno Fernandes was somebody that was playing the game as if he was giving everybody a taste of what he can do without the fans there,” Wright told The Ringer.

“When the fans came in, the man has just gone to another level of performance. It was almost as if he was saying: ‘I am announcing myself now’.

“Him and Pogba. What I saw from them and Greenwood and the whole Man United team, it was another team who said: ‘We are here to play now. We are here to party’.”
