One-time winners of the Sanford Women’s FA Cup, Police Ladies were stunned by lower tier side Ideal Ladies in a friendly game played today at the Kaneshie Bishop Park in Accra.
Coach Christopher Darkey’s charges had a rude awakening in their final dress rehearsal ahead of their clash against Halifax Ladies in the imminent Special Competition which will kick start on Saturday.
Matilda Fodu’s goal was enough to condemn Police ladies to a narrow defeat just a few days to the start of the special competition organized by the Normalisation Committee.
Just as Ajax Amsterdam shocked the footballing world with a resounding victory over giants Real Madrid yesterday, Ideal Ladies – a lower tier side silenced Police Ladies at their own backyard in a friendly game.
In a game which was supposed to be a routine win for the security service team, they were rather stunned by a solitary strike from Matilda Fodu in the 39th minute. Black Queens shot stoppers Fafali Dumehasi and Nana Asantewaa featured in the preparatory game with the latter being the unfortunate one to concede in the first half.
Police Ladies will have to up the ante before playing Halifax Ladies on Saturday.
