Chelsea are set to make a fourth transfer offer to Inter Milan for their striker Romelu Lukaku, football.london understands.
It’s understood that Chelsea are expected to return with a fourth offer for Lukaku, who left Stamford Bridge in 2014.
Now, according to CaughtOffside, Inter Milan are expected to accept the Blues’ €130m (£110m) offer for the 28-year-old Belgium forward, but there is still a major decision to be made.
The report claims that the decision is ‘solely down to the player’, which could prove to be a blow for Chelsea, with Lukaku said to be extremely happy at the San Siro.
Lukaku himself addressed speculation over his future earlier this summer and insisted he was happy with the Milan-based club.
He said: “I am staying at Inter. I’ve already had contact with new manager Inzaghi. Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet… but it was a very positive conversation.
“There’s also the challenge of doing it again (winning the league with Inter). I feel good at Inter.”
The Belgium international also said about being excited about working with new Inter boss Simone Inzaghi, who took over from Antonio Conte recently.
Lukaku said: “We talked a lot the day the club announced he would become the new coach.
“We also talked when I was at the European Championship. My brother [former Lazio player Jordan Lukaku] also told me a lot about him, he’s a good coach and I think he’ll help the team achieve great things.
“We hope to work together to continue the path we have started.”
Chelsea’s main target this summer had been Erling Haaland, but Borussia Dortmund have insisted on many an occasion that their striker is not for sale.
