Manchester City star Raheem Sterling continues to be linked with a move to Arsenal.

The Gunners are reportedly keeping a close eye on Sterling’s contract situation, according to the Daily Star, with the English frontman’s current deal set to expire in less than 20 months

The report claims that the north London club are interested in bringing the 26-year-old to the Emirates Stadium and he is currently on Mikel Arteta’s transfer list.

Arteta’s side have struggled for goals this season, failing to net in four of their seven Premier League games this term, a start that means they sit in 11th place in the Premier League table going into the international break.

However, adding Sterling to their ranks would surely fire them up the table and given the prolific forward has seemingly fallen down the pecking order under City boss Pep Guardiola, then perhaps he could become available for transfer in the coming months.

But if Sterling was to listen to the words of Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, he may not consider a switch to north London just yet -unless Arteta can pull off a shock this season.

Carragher claimed that Sterling would likely not consider a move to a club that aren’t in the UEFA Champions League, a competition that Arsenal have failed to qualify in each of the last five seasons.

“When it comes to being the most underrated England player of this era, Sterling is out on his own”, Carragher said in his column for The Telegraph during the summer.

“I can’t believe I have read some reports suggesting he [Sterling] could be a makeweight in a deal to take Kane to City.

“With respect, do people think Sterling is at a point in his career where he would join Spurs? Are they serious? If he was available, top Champions League clubs would be queuing up for him.”

The Gunners will hope that they can deliver a surprise top-four finish this term and return to Europe’s most prestigious competition, although, they already are four points off Manchester United, who are currently in fourth position.
