Joe Cole issues brutally honest warning to Thomas Tuchel after Chelsea defeat to Juventus – Football.London

Joe Cole has warned Chelsea that “top teams do not lose three games in a row” following their Champions League defeat to Juventus on Wednesday evening.

The Blues slumped to a second successive loss in Turin after Federico Chiesa’s second-half strike earned the Old Lady all three points against the reigning European champions.

The loss in Italy comes just days after Chelsea were beaten at home to title rivals Manchester City in the Premier League, by the same 1-0 scoreline.

Cole, when speaking during BT Sport’s coverage of the group stage clash, has now expressed how big of a game their clash against Southampton becomes at the weekend.

“It’s just a bump in the road – but it certainly makes the game at the weekend a huge match,” Cole said.

“Top teams don’t go and lose three games in a row. Southampton on Saturday is a huge game now.

“But I have no worries about Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel will get the boys where they need to be.”

Since Thomas Tuchel took charge of Chelsea in January, the German coach has not yet suffered three straight defeats and will be desperate to keep that record intact when the Blues welcome Southampton to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Tuchel, when asked whether his side suffered a hangover from the defeat to Man City at the weekend, put the loss in Turin down to “two big chances”.

He said: “We had a day off and two very good training sessions yesterday. We were absolutely sharp, looked very fresh and very hungry, and ready for a bounce back.

“It’s very difficult to put on a high rhythm against a team who defends so deep.

“If we defended deep against City it was difficult for them to create chances. It was the same for us here. But the difference was we gave two big chances and gave the belief back into the stadium.

“Manchester City scored from a set-piece with a deflected shot against us. Sometimes you need this. If a team defends deep, it’s hard to find your own rhythm.

“We were lacking runners. Once we started to do other things, we made mistakes and that cost us a bit of belief.

“A shooting problem. If we don’t shoot, they cannot be on target. If you play against a deep block like today, it’s hard to take shots.

“We found the spaces, it wasn’t easy. We had a lot of shots, but I think there are some chances late in the game where it wouldn’t have been so hard to find the target. I was liking the aggression we had yesterday.”
