Jorginho drops team news hint ahead of Chelsea vs Brighton as Tuchel makes N’Golo Kante decision – Football.London

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has hinted that he will be involved against Brighton in the Premier League, as Thomas Tuchel’s N’Golo Kante conundrum looks like being solved.

Jorginho, 30, starred in the 3-1 Aston Villa win as he converted two penalty kicks, just as he did against Leeds in early December.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that the Italian is in line to start his 17th game of this 2021/22 Premier League season, despite nursing injury ‘pains’ that had caused him to miss the 0-0 Wolves draw.

Since that injury was revealed by manager Tuchel, the player in question has scored three times in the last two outings – all from the penalty spot – against Brentford in the Carabao Cup and Aston Villa in the Premier League.

With it looking like he has kept a lid on his fatigue-related injury that he suffered due to his exertions in the summer with Italy in the European Championships, there is a high chance that the 30-year-old will be one of the midfielder’s selected in the pivot.

But who will be the other one?

Well, it looks like N’Golo Kante will not be the one to partner up with the Italian, as the Chelsea boss hinted in his pre-match press conference ahead of this midweek clash against the Seagulls.

“If you just speak about central midfield, let’s assume that maybe N’Golo is out, maybe Ruben is still out; so one [positive] test in central midfield is enough for everything to collapse again because then Kova [Mateo Kovačić] will again play 90 minutes from where? Out of nothing,” the manager said via the Guardian.

“You risk injuries – that is what we are doing at the moment. I cannot say more and I cannot see how we are out of Covid threat at the moment.”

Kante himself suffered the same injury against the Villans that he sustained in the Juventus win, meaning he will likely sit out for this one, meaning that one of Saul Niguez or Mateo Kovacic are likely to be the other midfielder selected for this gameweek 20 fixture.

With Liverpool the immediate assignment after this midweek clash, it’s not surprise to see Tuchel take the safe approach regarding his management of Kante amid the player welfare and five substitutions debate during the congested festive schedule.

The Les Bleus international did train earlier this week meaning that he could still feature against Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday in a crucial encounter which could affect both side’s chances of claiming the title.

Jorginho did hint at his selection with his pre-match graphics post on his Instagram account @jorginhofrello and although that doesn’t necessarily mean he will feature from the start, it does suggest that Chelsea’s No. 5 may have been given the nod to play.
