Jurgen Klopp gives Liverpool FC team and injury news ahead of Manchester United match – Manchester Evening News

Liverpool have been dealt an injury boost ahead of Sunday’s Manchester United clash as Curtis Jones will resume full first-team training on Friday afternoon, but the fixture comes too soon for Thiago Alcantara.

Jones missed the previous wins over Watford and Atletico Madrid through injury after he aggravated a knock on international duty. He didn’t train for Lee Carsley’s side but featured in the win over Andorra as the Liverpudlian threaded Emile Smith Rowe through for the decisive goal.

Thiago however remains sidelined through a calf strain which he forced him off during their 3-0 win over Crystal Palace in the middle of last month.

Harvey Elliott remains the only long-term absentee for Jurgen Klopp’s side after suffering a horror injury against Leeds United.

“The squad is alright. We have to see, that’s how it is,” the German told the club website.

“We are only two days after the game and we have to make sure that we all get fit again, but they are the typical things. I couldn’t tell you now who is 100 per cent available and who is not.

“Just what’s clear is that Curtis [Jones] will train today with us the full session, that’s the plan. And Thiago not. So, these are the two things I know for the moment.”

He added speaking in his press conference: “Curtis Jones will train with us completely today, he trained in parts before we went to Atletico. He should be in contention, Thiago not. He is not in team training yet, not this week for sure. He is running.

“After international break we expect, we will see.”

The England U21 international enjoyed a spell of games in the Liverpool side, scoring against Brentford before playing a key part in the rout over Porto in the Champions League.

United will be without Raphael Varane for the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side.
