Joan Laporta‘s restructuring programme at Barcelona has continued, with B team coach Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta being relieved of his duties ahead of next season.
Garcia Pimienta, who has worked at the club for 19 years, will see his time in charge of the B team come to an end this summer.
This news from ESPN was particularly surprising in light of the fact that his contract with Barcelona‘s B team had initially been extended by a year.
In addition, Garcia Pimienta had been considered as one of the potential candidates to replace Ronald Koeman in the event of the Dutchman’s possible departure.
Garcia Pimienta joined the academy almost two decades ago as coach of the Cadete A (under-16s) side and has worked with the likes of Lionel Messi.
His first major trophy came in 2018, when he lifted the UEFA Youth League with the Juvenil A (under-19s) side.
Altimira, Garcia Pimienta and Roura
Garcia Pimienta‘s departure from the club’s academy is part of a larger remodelling of the club’s youth system.
He has been followed out of the exit door by Aureli Altimira, the club’s director of youth football, and Alex Garcia, who works in the scouting department.
They could be joined by Jordi Roura, one of the directors of the B team.
