Leeds United’s three-goal omen threatens to embarrass depleted Manchester United – Leeds Live

Opening day opponents Manchester United endured a torrid afternoon in their latest pre-season outing on Saturday as they were defeated by Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

With just under three weeks until the Premier League kicks back into action, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team lost 4-2 to the West London outfit, who found the back of the net thanks to goals from Charlie Austin, Lyndon Dykes (2) and Moses Odubajo.

Due to both EURO 2020 and the Copa America, the Red Devils’ preparations for the new campaign have been less then ideal, with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Luke Shaw, Fred, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford still yet to report back following their international exploits.

As a result, Man United were forced to name a second string side for their fixture at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, with Mason Greenwood and Aaron Wan-Bissaka the only two real first-team regulars named in the starting XI.

Although their star players are set to return to Carrington in stages over the next ten days, this could be a sign of what is to come during the early portion of the season as Manchester United’s key players look to get up to speed.

This could provide Leeds United with a real confidence boost ahead of the arch-rivals’ fixture on the opening day of the season.

With only Kalvin Phillips yet to report back to Thorp Arch for pre-season, the Leeds squad should all be raring to go ahead of the clash at Old Trafford.

This could be a worrying prospect for Man United as the Whites have been fast starters in each of their three seasons under Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds have scored three goals in all three of their opening day encounters against Stoke City, Bristol City and Liverpool respectively and will also be eager to exact revenge for the 6-2 defeat they suffered in December last season.
