Lionel Messi to miss PSG vs Lyon as he continues COVID-19 recovery – The Athletic

Lionel Messi will miss Paris Saint-Germain’s trip to Lyon as he continues his recovery from COVID-19.

Messi has returned to Paris from Argentina, having tested positive for the virus following the recent winter break in French football. He missed PSG’s 4-0 win over Vannes in the French Cup as a result.

While he is now free of the virus, he is not yet available to play for the Ligue 1 leaders and will miss Sunday’s match.

A PSG statement read: “Lionel Messi will continue his individual post-Covid recovery programme in the coming days.”

The French giants will also be without Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler, Danilo Pereira, Layvin Kurzawa and Gianluigi Donnarumma due to COVID-19 isolation periods.

Neymar is recovering from an injury but will return to training in three weeks.

PSG, though, are top of the Ligue 1 table on 46 points after 19 games. They are 10 points clear of second-place Marseille.
